It opens with the ambient noise of a party; it's a homecoming for a Vietnam veteran. Beneath the celebration, there's uneasiness. "What's Going On" looked at the forces shaping American culture at the beginning of the 1970s. Gaye didn't shout, didn't demand anything. His approach was cautious: "Father, we don't need to escalate." He decided to change everything about the way he worked. He produced himself — a radical move at Motown. He used multitracking to layer several lead vocals into a back and forth. His album became an interconnected suite, a gallery of songs reflecting the state of the union as Gaye saw it. Motown, and in particular label head Gordy, didn't understand "What's Going On." The label sat on it for months, until Gaye threatened he'd never record there again. When the single and album finally did reach the marketplace, both exploded. The troubled recluse was reborn as a crusader.
THE VINYL IS VG++ PLAYS EXCELLENT - SHOWS UNDER LIGHTS A FEW MINOR HAIR LINES ON VERY SHINY US VINYL - NO FELT SCRATCHES!!
ON PLAYING, THE SOUND IS SUPERB! EXCELLENT DYNAMICS, SUPER BASS AND HIGHS WITH NO OBTRUSIVE SURFACE NOISE - I HEARD VERY LITTLE CRACKLING MAINLY AT NEEDLE DROP - NOTHING TO HAMPER THE MUSIC IN ANY WAY, THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL RECORD WHICH IS RARE IN ITSELF AS MOST OF THESE RECORDS HAVE BEEN PLAYED TO DEATH!!
THE LABELS ARE EXCELLENT, BRIGHT WITH VERY LITTLE SEEABLE WEAR TO SPINDLE, IN FACT THE SPINDLE HOLE IS STILL TIGHT
THE SLEEVE IS VG++ , NO SPLITS OR LABELS TO BODY OF JACKET- HAS SOME RINGWEAR AND LIGHT AGE WEAR. HAS LIGHT BUMPING TO EDGES AND CORNERS - THE SPINE IS VG++ WITH MILD EDGE AND SPINE BUMPING
COMES WITH MOTOWN INNER SLEEVE
PLEASE SEE PHOTOS
FINALLY ONE LAST WORD RE HAIRLINES, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY NON SEALED RECORD WITHOUT THEM, MANY HAD THEM FROM NEW. MOSTLY THEY ARE A RESULT OF STORAGE AND USE AND USUALLY HAVE LITTLE IMPACT ON THE SOUND QUALITY. THE SAME GOES FOR BACKGROUND NOISE, UNFORTUNATELY ALL RECORDS WILL HAVE SOME AND THIS VARIES AND REFLECTS THE PRESSING QUALITY.
Most records have production marks where someone touched or moved the vinyl while it was still semi-soft. These marks look like smudges, but are not scratches or "paper scuffs" and do not usually sound. Untouched vinyl from newly-opened records have these marks.
RECOMMENDED!
FULLY GUARANTEED!
IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded.
Records are graded under bright lights or discrete sunlight - In the case of visibly possible harmful scratches, the record will be tested and sound quality noted. Many vintage (1955-70) records will play fine with visible damage due to superior vinyl and better pressings.

How I Grade Condition Of Discs
Mint
This means I have owned it from new or purchased from a distributors warehouse, basically it means absolutely new shape, never been played or out of its dust cover. In the case of LP's, a North American album will have to be factory sealed (anyone can reseal an album!) Take Note: European and Japaneses albums were never shrink wrapped!
Note: Being mint does not guarantee it's free of pops and clicks, many pressings especially from the US were made with very poor vinyl and in a hurry which means often there are imperfections in the pressing. As a former importer, we were often given back brand new albums due to clicks heard in the playback.
Mint Minus - No such thing, it's either mint or not.
Excellent - A disc is super clean, with no visible marks
Excellent Plus, means it's probably mint but can't be proven by me.
Excellent minus, is a disc that is excellent except it may have some markings that do not show up in the playing
VG - A disc that is STILL in good shape, WILL have some scuffs or scratches, not in excellent shape but well worth owning. VG + and ++,a disc that is that much better than VG.
VG minus, just a smidgen below VG
