PRIVATE ISSUE

VINYL is VG++
High gloss vinyl has one faintest sleeve scuff on Side 1. One very light surface scratch on Side 2 that barely sounds. LP plays very clean throughout. Silver on dark brown labels are pristine.

COVER is VG++
Super clean front and back. Corner crease, lower left, front. Light wear at edges, back. No writing, soil or other marks. Seams and spine completely intact with no splits.
 
Very Hard to find, small press run, Soul LP from Oakland.

Marvin Holmes is one of the founding fathers of Oakland Funk.

Marvin Holmes and the Uptights emerged as the Oakland Bay Area’s hottest soul band in the early 60’s and 70’s. Marvin’s knack for writing catchy tunes and stellar guitar work gave them two hits in the 60’s “The Funky Mule” and "Ooh Ooh The Dragon". “Funky Mule” instantly became a national hit.

Marvin Holmes and the Uptights played behind many major soul, R&B and Blues acts that came to the Oakland Bay area: B.B. King, The Whispers, David Ruffin, Lenny Williams, Etta James, Esther Phillips, Martha and the Vandellas, Hugh Masakela, The Temptations and even Jimi Hendrix, back in 1969.

After The Uptights broke up, Marvin continued in the 70's and 80's with the bands The Funk Company, Marvin Holmes and Justice and Rush. 2 earlier LPs, "Summer of '73" and "Honor Thy Father" as Marvin Holmes and Justice were also released on Marvin's own Brown Door Records. All 3 are now extremely scarce and highly sought by collectors of rare soul and funk.

LP housed in protective poly outer sleeve.

All records packed with vinyl (inside inner sleeve) behind cover - and shipped in strong LP mailer boxes with bubble-wrap around all sides - sandwiched between stiff corrugated flats for best protection in the mail.

Please be aware that these important supplies add to my shipping costs - of which only a very small amount is added into the shipping charge.
