DESCRIPTION

Mary Martin - “Lute Song” Decca Records A-445 (23536/23537/23538) (Mono) from 1946. Super hard to find Original Broadway Cast recording of Lute Song starring Mary Martin. Music by Raymond Scott, Lyrics by Bernard Hanighen with the Orchestra Directed by Raymond Scott. The production also starred Yul Brynner and featured the future Mrs. Ronald Regan aka Nancy Davis in her only Broadway appearance! This Album is on three 10” 78rpm Shellac Discs in a Book style Cover with three bound-in paper sleeves. Includes the Original Tri-Fold Color Picture / Lyric / Notes Booklet as well as a Playbill from the London Production at the Curran Theatre Staged by John Houseman and Starring Yul Brynner and Dolly Haas.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the only form that this Album was ever issued in. It has been combined with some other Plays that Martin was in like On The Town and One Touch Of Venus but never issued as an LP or CD on its own.

CONDITION

The Book type Sleeve is in nice overall shape. There is some light wear on the corners and edges, nothing very serious. There is some “age spotting” on the inside and on the blanck gray linen back. There is an old price written in pen in small letters in the upper right corner. Sitll looks nice, the colors are bright and is very solid with no other real flaws and overall I would still rate it as VG. The shellac disc are in very nice shape looking lightly played. There are some light scuffs & hairlines but in very nice lightly used condition and should rate at least VG and maybe edging up on VG+. There is a little bit of wear on the spindle hole of the 2nd disc, very minor. Otherwise, the labels are Near Mint. The booklet has a couple tiny spots but is at least EX if not Near Mint. The playbill is a bit yellowed and folded in the middle.

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less!
