After resurfacing earlier in the year with their first single since the noughties, 'Mattel', Masters at Work are not resting on their laurels. Kenny 'Dope' Gonzalez and Lil' Louie Vega are in prime form on 'We Did It For Years', a typically rhythmically sweaty and on-point club cut simply dripping with dancefloor energy. The EP-opening 'Main Mix' is genuinely brilliant, with the pair peppering a heavy, Gonzalez-programmed beat - reminiscent of such classics as 'The Nervous Track' - with rave-igniting stabs, twisted electronic sounds, classic NYC house organ sounds and spoken word snippets. The accompanying KenLou Dub is a darker, tougher and even more percussive affair - raw, stripped back and deliciously weighty - while the 'Beats' version is a high-grade DJ tool that runs for no less than six minutes.
