The item for bid in this auction is the rare, uncensored initial release of the MC5's (nee Motor City Five) Kick Out the Jams - EKS-74042 Stereo.
This testament to Detroit and Ann Arbor's burgeoning counterculture of the late sixties was recored live at the Detroit Grande (pronounced Gran-Dee) ballroom on Halloween, 1968. Rob Tyner, Fred Smith, Wayne Kramer, Michael Davis and Dennis Thompson went to work to show the world the alternative to west coast "Flower Power" and what Kramer called "...the honky death culture." If you were a kid at the time, and you managed to see these men in concert, it was like hearing and seeing something entirely different. What the five did was really amazing.
The kicker to this item, of course, is that it's uncensored, all the way down to John Sinclair's liner notes, which extorted the virtues of the White Panther Party and the communal lifestyle of the five - however valid or invalid that may have been at the time.
Based on the Goldmine Grading System, the vinyl is in VG+. The surface is glossy with a few light flaws which will not effect play or hz frequency. There are no deep scratches that will produce loud pops. This record was cared for, and wear is minimal, considering that the record is nearly 40 years old. This record was stored vertically at normal room temperature since purchase. Cover is in VG+ condition, with minimal ring wear, no tape, no writing and one four inch minor seam split on bottom edge. Cover is in excellent condition, with only a 4" seam split on top pocket edge. The ink on the cover exterior shows minor wear with no writing, tape or marks.
There aren't many like this one left! The only thing missing from this LP is the ear-splitting volume produced by a wall of Marshalls! Good Luck and Happy Bidding! Kick out the Jams and stay alive with the MC5!
