Description

Hello, you are bidding on the original release, Elektra’s first pressing of the infamous & influential Motor City’s MC5’s initial lp. “Kick Out the Jams.” Subsequent pressings of this milestone lp have a red label. This is the gatefold release and includes the unedited notes of John Sinclair in red lettering. There are 8 songs in total and includes the original & uncensored song introduction to “Kick Out The Jams.” (No “brothers and sisters” here.) This lp was recorded live at Detroit’s Grande Ballroom on the Zenta New Year on October 30-31, 1968.

I am the original and only owner of this lp. I bought it as soon as it was released. It is Elektra Stereo #EKS 74042, USA pressing, with matrix numbers # EKS-74042-A and EKS-74042-B. Very heavy card stock was used for this gatefold sleeve which has a very wide spine measuring approx. ¼ inch. It is a heavier vinyl. The condition of the cover and the lp itself are rather exceptional. The lp is not pristine and has some light scuffs and few light marks. It plays fine due to the heavy pressing on the heavier vinyl and the loudness of the music. The rating for this cover & lp would be EX/VG and it plays better than that. I have always taken care of the lps which I have. It has always been stored vertically and away from water. It has an audiophile record cover and an aftermarket lp plastic cover made for gatefold covers.

On the first day of the auction, I noticed that I had posted a red label. I sold a reissue MC5 lp months earlier. This is the original pressing with the gold label and is pictured here.
