This is "Meet The Beatles" on the Capitol label, T-2047.
This record-in-original cover is housed in a distributor's baggy plastic wrap!
It is not known when Capitol began shrink-wrapping "Meet The Beatles." The majority of these very first label issues have been found in distributor "in-store baggys"...or none at all! Additionally, the record is housed in the date appropriate Royal Blue original Capitol Records inner sleeve in VG++ condition with a 4" split at the bottom. The cover is an excellent VG++!
This is the scarce and very desirable issue that does not have the BMI or ASCAP publishing credits on the labels! A very limited number of these particular anomaly label variations were pressed before Capitol realized the mistake and altered subsequent pressings. This is a true first pressing of this historic Beatles album! (see pics)
Incredibly, this record is rated VG++ sound quality.
Owing to the sudden meteoric success of The Beatles the sales of "Meet The Beatles" were astronomical. One can only imagine the number of turntable drops of this culture changing record.
For that reason alone it is very difficult to find a "Meet The Beatles" record in as nice a condition as the one offered here. Couple that with the no ASCAP / BMI rarity factor and you have yourself one of the Beatles Holy Grails!!
This is a Scranton pressing housed in a #3 cover with no mention of George Martin.
The only draw back on this excellent find is the label on Side 2 which shows some wear at the bottom of the spindle hole.
As mentioned, the record has a nice VG++ sound quality with just a few ticks present and they are heard between tracks. There are some superficial scuffs and scratches that do not affect the excellent sound in any way.
