Rolling Stone magazine called Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps "the first rock 'n' roll band in the world."

Super RARE! 78 RPM test press promo of Gene Vincent's Be-Bop-A-Lula from 1956. Own this one of a kind shellac record from one of the best rock and roll/rockabilly pioneers. Heritage Music and Entertainment Dallas Signature Auction Catalog #634 indicates: "The pressings of a commercial 78 RPM are rare items beacause in many cases they are the only extant copy or the clearest copy."

While originally positioned as Capitol Records answer to RCA Records Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps went on to become a sensation in their own right. Some historical information credits Gene with writing the song, others say while he was recovering in Veteran's Hospital In Porthsmouth from a shattered shinbone from a motorcyle accident, he paid a fellow patient, Don Grave, $25 for the song, written about a local stripper.

We've never played this record to test it as it is so rare. Side two is blank. Label is typewritten and noted with V99667. In addition to the center spindle hole, the record has a second hole on the reverse side in back of the label (slightly visible under the "V".) The second hole was used as a reference point in the stamping process.

We have not been able to find another of this record online. It's rarity is reflected in the starting bid.
