Description

I purchased a massive estate-sale lot of over 2,000 vintage 45s in seven crates, all records sleeved. Owner was a savvy collector, it's loaded with old soul, rock, R&B, doo wop, Northern Soul, hip-hop, funk, obscurities, rarities, promos, novelties, etc. I will be listing quite a few over the coming months, stay tuned!
'The Man From the Island' was compiled on the 2011 Sun Ra box set The Eternal Myth Revealed (last track on disc 9), introduced with the following narration: "Composer and record producer Mel London was the owner of Chief Records in Chicago. In 1957 London recorded a session under his own name, with the possibility of Sonny (Sonny Blount aka Sun Ra) writing the arrangement for the rhythmic calypso composition, Man From the Island."
B-side is a Chicago blues number "Doggin' Me Round"
