BEN POLLACK AND HIS ORCHESTRA have the reputation of being the hottest and most innovative white band to emerge from Chicago in the late '20s. Populated by great musicians like BENNY GOODMAN (clarinet), JIMMY McPARTLAND (cornet), FUD LIVINGSTON (tenor sax and arranger), GLENN MILLER (trombone) and BEN POLLACK himself on drums, among others, they were a formidable outfit in 1927. However, between the increasing commercialism of the music business, and Pollack's unfortunate romantic fixation on singer Doris Robbins, only a very few records show his band at its Jazz Hot best.
THIS is one of them: "MEMPHIS BLUES" - a jazz standard, and "WAITIN' FOR KATY," a lively pop tune. Both arranged in kaleidoscopic, ultra-modernistic hot style by Fud Livingston, these two sides are a jazz romp. Endlessly satisfying; bristling with solos by Goodman, McPartland, Livingston and Miller. Truly an essential record for your '20s jazz collection. I wish the Pollack band had made at least a DOZEN more like this!
This original 1927 "Scroll" Victor 21184 is in nice E- condition. Plays great!

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
