Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 gets its latest reissue right in time for the World Cup, which, for footy fans, will forever be synonymous with a certain Nike ad in an airport with the opening track playing. 'Mas Que Nada' (originally written by Jorge Ben and recorded in 1962 by Carioca Bossure) is one of the most recognisable bossa nova jams on the planet but it still lights up faces whenever it plays. The rest of the tunes on this masterpiece are no less good, even if less well widely known, and many of them are what helped Bossa go global. There are darker sounds like 'Going Out Of My Head' next to hot Latin fusions like 'Agua De Beber', complete with lush harmonies, subtle horns and plenty of organic percussion. There is a reasons this album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2011.
