Im Februar 1963, wenige Monate nach dem Mord an Präsident Kennedy, spielte Miles Davis auf einem Benefizkonzert verschiedener Bürgerrechtsorganisationen. Die Live-Aufnahme wurde in zwei Alben geteilt: Four & More enthält die schnellen Titel, auf My Funny Valentine sind die in langsamem und mittlerem Tempo gespielten Stücke zu finden. Für Davis markiert My Funny Valentine einen Wendepunkt. Zum letzten Mal veröffentlicht er ein Live-Album mit Standards und nicht mit eigenen Kompositionen. Zudem ist die Aufnahme eine der letzten mit derselben Band, die Seven Steps of Heaven hervorbrachte.

Davis spielt elegant und poetisch wie nie zuvor. Pianist Herbie Hancock, Bassist Ron Carter und Schlagzeuger Tony Williams begleiten den Trompeter, doch die kongeniale Ergänzung ist George Coleman. Subtil und mit Understatement, dabei immer mit klarer Richtung und dennoch flexibel ist der Tenor-Saxophonist der optimale Partner für Davis.

Das Remastering für Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab übernahm Krieg Wunderlich von einer Bandkopie, da das tatsächliche Master in den Sony-Archiven nicht mehr aufzufinden ist. Dementsprechend steht oben auf dem Cover dieser Ausgabe auch nicht der sonst übliche Schriftzug 'Original Master Recording'. Doch keine Sorge - der Klang ist ganz außergewöhnlich gut, wie man es von MFSL gewohnt ist. Die 180g-LP mit 33 rpm erscheint mit fortlaufender Seriennummer in limitierter Auflage.

In February 1963, a few months after the murder of President Kennedy, Miles Davis played a benefit concert of various civil rights organizations. The live recording has been divided into two albums: Four & More contains the fast tracks, on My Funny Valentine you can find the slow and medium-tempo tracks. For Davis, My Funny Valentine marks a turning point. For the last time he releases a live album with standards and not with his own compositions. In addition, the recording is one of the last with the same band, the Seven Steps of Heaven spawned.

Davis plays elegant and poetic like never before. Pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams accompany the trumpeter, but the congenial complement is George Coleman. Subtly and understated, always with a clear direction and yet flexible, the tenor saxophonist is the perfect partner for Davis.

Krieg Wunderlich took over the remastering for Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab from a tape copy, since the actual master is no longer found in the Sony archives. Accordingly, the usual 'Original Master Recording' lettering does not appear on the cover of this issue. But do not worry - the sound is exceptionally good, as you would expect from MFSL. The 180g LP with 33 rpm appears with serial number in limited edition.
