MIDNIGHT OIL LPWith your winning bid you will receive the fourth studio album by Midnight Oil, and the band's first album to be released in the US, titled "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1" which contains the popular track "Power and the Passion", released in 1982 by Columbia Records. Length: 45:55, 10 rock songs. Catalog #BFC-38996. In stereo. In its original jacket and sleeve. I've owned this since it came out and have never played it. Time now to thin out my collection. I worked in the entertainment business here in Hollywood and got a lot of records for free. Sometimes duplicates. It's in mint condition. Jacket and sleeve also in A+ condition. Includes a B&W glossy studio publicity photo of the band measuring 8½"x6½". (Seen below) Also get a band biography printed by the studio on an 8½"x11" sheet of paper. Both of these came with the purchase of the album 42 years ago.
Midnight Oil were an Australian rock band originally performing as Farm from 1972 with drummer Rob Hirst, bass guitarist Andrew James and keyboard player/lead guitarist Jim Moginie. While vocalist Peter Garrett was studying at Australian National University in Canberra, he answered an advertisement for a spot in Farm, and by 1975 the band was touring the east coast. By late 1976, Garrett moved to Sydney to complete his law degree, and Farm changed its name to Midnight Oil by drawing the name out of a hat. Through a long and distinguished career, the band became known for its driving hard-rock sound, intense live performances and political activism, particularly in aid of anti-nuclear, environmentalist and indigenous causes. It continues to perform and release new material to this day.
"Power and the Passion" was the second single by Midnight Oil from their 1982 album "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1" (following "US Forces"). The song is one of the band's most famous, and it was performed on every Midnight Oil tour since the issue of "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1" as well as at the WaveAid concert. The song includes a drum solo by Rob Hirst; it is the only studio recording by Midnight Oil to feature a drum solo. In May 2001 the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), as part of its 75th Anniversary celebrations, named "Power and the Passion" as one of the Top 30 Australian songs of all time.
