Description
PLAYBACK (ON BASIS DEBUT, VDH SYSTEM) FOR THIS IS REALLY IMPRESSIVE. THE DISK IS NOT PERFECT BUT THE SOUND IS REALLY REMARKABLE. GREAT DEPTH OF FIELD AND DYNAMICS MAKE THIS A REAL SPECIAL DISK. I'M SURPRISED IT NEVER MADE IT TO HP'S LIST.

Artist: London Symphony Orchestra conducted by PETER MAAG, with Jennifer Vyvyan, soprano, and Marion Lowe, soprano
Title: Mendelssohn: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
Label: DECCA (UK). Labels are black with silver text. Stereophonic pressing on medium thick vinyl, with deep groove. Catalog number is SXL 2060.
Cover: MINT- Extremely minor wear in a few corners. Otherwise, like new. This is not a Blue Back but a white one with half-moon scallops. There is some foxing in the edges around the back. There are no markings.
Matrix numbers:
Side 1: ZAL-3559-6D Also, from markings we know that this LP on side 1 is the 6th Master Lacquer, from the first mother (#1 in dead wax) and the third stamper (“C” in dead wax). There is also a tax code marking that seems to suggest that this LP was produced prior to 1963. The marking MT was used from 1/1/63 to 6/30/63. This LP is marked “MS” the tax code that may have been used in the six previous months.
Side 2: ZAL-3560-5E. Also, from markings we know that this LP on side 2 is the 5th Master Lacquer, from the second mother (#2 in dead wax) and the fourth stamper (“K” in dead wax).
Year: Recording first published 1959 (per label). This seems to be 1962.
Condition:
DISC: Vinyl is NEAR MINT with 100% of original gloss, as clean as can be found. Appears to have been played three times that are listed on the record sleeve. It has been handled with utmost care. The only flaw is an extremely light nail mark on side one that runs from band one to band three. It does not seem to sound. Fidelity is superb.
JACKET: Laminated Clairifoil jacket is overall very presentable. Front artwork is nice and bright, with “Midsummer Night’d Dream” is in pink letters and “Peter Maag London Symphony Orchestra Soloists & Chorus” are in yellow letters. There is no blacking out of the “DECCA” in the upper right corner and no trace of ring wear. Nice seams and spine. Light wear only at 2 or 3 corner tips. Almost no wear at opening edge. Overall an extremely clean jacket with some original gloss.
Original poly-lined inner sleeve is included in Exc+ condition except for dates of playing LP.
