GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : siamo di fronte ad una colonna sonora per un film di breve durata con attori e trama ma privo di linguaggio parlato. Così Mike Curb ha campo libero per riempire con la sua musica le immagini dei pattinatori su tavola lungo i marciapiedi e le strade della California. Il risultato è veramente eccellente. Musica surf e garage rock si combinano perfettamente e le note della chitarra elettrica di Davie Allen hanno qualcosa di magico. I suoi Arrows lo supportano magnificamente con una particolare menzione per il batterista. Tutte le tredici tracce sono strumentali e possiedono un ritmo molto vivace con poche eccezioni dove c'è un leggero rallentamento dello sviluppo sonoro. Qualche titolo: "Skaterdater I" (a2) con notevoli pulsazioni del basso, ottimo fraseggio della batteria e chitarra in grande spolvero. "Skate Out" (a5), forse il pezzo più insolito dell'album, caratterizzato da una linea di basso pulsante ed insistente e ottimo drumming. "Skaterdater Rock" (a6) guidato dalla chitarra distorta con il supporto di basso e batteria. "Together I" (a7) dalla ritmica meno travolgente in cui flauto e chitarra duettano. Nel secondo lato troviamo pressappoco caratteristiche similari a quelle dei brani che ho appena descritto.

I titoli dei tredici brani con la loro durata possono esser letti guardando i due lati dell'etichetta raffigurati nelle scansioni n° 3 e 4.

Notes : we are facing a soundtrack for a short film with actors and plot but without spoken language. So Mike Curb has free field to fill with his music the images of the skateboarders along the sidewalks and the streets of California. The result is truly excellent. Surf music and garage rock are perfectly combined and the sound of Davie Allen's electric guitar has something magic. His Arrows support him magnificently with a special mention for the drummer. All thirteen tracks are instrumental and have a very lively beat with a few exceptions where there is a slight slowdown of the sound development.  Some titles: "The Skaterdater" (a2) with powerful pulsations of bass, remarkable musical phrasing on the drums and guitar in prominence. "Skate Out" (a5), perhaps the most unusual piece of the album, featuring a pulsating and insistent bassline accompanied by great drumming. "Skaterdater Rock" (a6) which highlights the fuzz guitar supported by bass and drums. "Together I" (a7) from minor overwhelming rhythm where flute and guitar play as in a kind of duet. In the second side we find roughly similar characteristics to those of the tracks I just described.

The titles of thirteen tracks with their lenght can be read looking at both sides of label depicted in the scans No. 3 and 4.

Un bel cortometraggio, vincitore della Palma D'Oro a Cannes nel 1966 per quella categoria, prodotto dagli Stati Uniti. Regia di Noel Black, con Michael Mel, Melissa Mallory e Gregg Carroll.
