The third session was recorded on March 9, 1950 and includes: DECEPTION, ROCKER and MOONBEAMS. This features: Miles Davis (tp) J.J. Johnson (tb) Gunther Schuller (fhr) Bill Barber (tu) Lee Konitz (as) Gerry Mulligan (bar) John Lewis (p) Al McKibbon (b) Max Roach (d) Kenny Hagood (vcl) This last session is from “Miles Davis And His Orchestra”. Capitol drew a diagram on the liner notes of these three sessions, but did not list the personnel. This LP, released in 1954, had the first pressings of 33 1/3 of “Birth Of The Cool” on it. The 12 inch “Birth Of The Cool” would not be released until 1956. Capitol always found a way to screw things up! This is a First Pressing and a Mono recording. If you purchase it, please copy my description. I have graded both the vinyl and and the record jacket as EX for the following reasons. The vinyl is clean from any marks on both sides of the LP. There is some slight wear around the spindle hole on Side 2, but none on Side 1. When played, the sound is near perfect, but I noticed some very slight surface noise between the selections. The LP comes in its original sleeve. It’s close to M- but not quite. The vinyl still retains its original luster. The record jacket nearly perfect but there is a wear mark on the liner notes.
