Description
For auction is MILES DAVIS' "Milestones," on Columbia CL 1193, MONO, Six-Eye DG, 1958,1st Press. With John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Phiily Joe Jones.
SOUND: VG+/NM
It has been machine-cleaned and I listened to both sides completely. Two caveats: A1, "Dr. Jekyll," has a recurrent, soft tic for the last 2 minutes of the cut. The second caveat: 2 random pops in B1, "Milestones." That is all. All the rest of the playback, both sides, features brilliant, sharp, clean sound. Absolutely delightful!
VINYL: VG/VG+
Side A has a few light scuffs. They don't appear serious, and try as I might, I could not "feel" them. Still, I am assuming the recurrent tic I heard in A1 must have something to do with one of them. Side B looks very clean, with no flaws worth mentioning. The labels are deep-grooved, red "six-eye," with a touch of wear by the spindle-hole, and a few faint spindle marks. Relying only on the visual, you would grade this vinyl solid VG+, maybe even NM. But even though I can't find any feel-able marks, I conservatively down-graded it for the 2-minute tic.
JACKET: VG
The jacket has only one flaw: there is circular ring-wear on the front cover, with the paper missing in a little arc by the record label (see pics.) Otherwise, the jacket is fine: solid all-around and well-preserved. The right-hand corners are a little bumped. The back cover is clean, bright and unmarked.
The photos are of the exact record up for bids. Look before you bid, ask if you want any additional info or pics.
Not perfect, but a very nice copy! No reserve, bidding starts at $25.
Every record I auction has been cleaned on a Nitty Gritty vacuum/cleaner. I played every record to determine if there are static, tics, pops, hisses, what have you. I endeavor to thoroughly report any extraneous audio "noise" or problems of any significance. Other than that, I will report on the general condition of each record, both vinyl and jacket, according to Goldmine standards, to the best of my ability.
Every record is put into a new, clean sleeve insert. In the case of an interesting original sleeve insert, I'll include that in the sale.
If you're into this stuff, you might want to save me to your seller's list and check back periodically. I'll be putting a lot of vintage jazz records up for auction. I'm not a collector, nor an audiophile, but I think they are desirable if you're into this kind of material. Click "see other items" and thanks for looking!
