(FIRST IN ITS INNER, PERFORATED PLASTIC BAGGY AND THEN AGAIN IN ITS ORIGINAL SHRINKWRAPPED COVER). THIS TYPE OF INNER SLEEVES (PERFORATED PLASTIC BAGGIES) WAS USED INTERMITTENTLY BY COLUMBIA BETWEEN 1955 AND 1967 AND WAS DISCONTINUED AFTER 1967.

·       WE DO NOT BELIEVE THAT STEREO PRESSINGS OF THIS TITLE WERE EVER ISSUED ON THE RED AND BLACK COLUMBIA 'SIX EYE' LABEL (THE MONOS DEFINITELY HAVE); WE BELIEVE THAT THE PRESSING HISTORY OF THE STEREO VERSION OF THIS ALBUM STARTS WITH THE NEXT GENERATION OF THE COLUMBIA STEREO LABEL ( RED AND BLACK COLUMBIA LABEL “360 STEREO SOUND” IN BLACK LETTERS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LABEL), IN WHICH CASE THE BUYER HAS A REALISTIC CHANCE OF FINDING THE FIRST PRESSING INSIDE

On this recording, Miles Davis is captured with his transitional small combo featuring Hank Mobley, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb, as well as with the Gil Evans Orchestra. It was one of only two concerts Davis and Evans performed together, and that alone makes the album necessary for collectors, but the music itself is terrific. Neither the small group nor large band performances offer any new revelations, but they both showcase a strong, powerful Davis, and the music is quite enjoyable.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record is STILL in its original inner, perforated plastic baggy (we can see it through the opening)

(d)          True Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist (EXCEPT as compact discs). This is an electronically rechannelled recording.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the top seam  (BARELY VISIBLE)
