Description
This is the holy grail of rare avant guard jazz records. It is an original pressing (1 of around 100) of a recording made by Milford Graves and Don Pullen at Yale University in 1966 . This was the first of two recordings issued of that performance and is the rarer recording of the 2. It has never been reissued in any form as far as I know.
The record is in superb condition with only one very superficial scuff mark that I can find. The cover is a heavy black textured finish, handpainted by Graves and/ or Pullen and is also in excellent condition: no seam splits, shelf or edge marks.
The record contains the original typewritten note about the project in mint condition.
I bought this record in a store in London some 30 years ago; I have played it once to the best of my recollection. It is time for someone else to enjoy this excellent music and the pride of owning such a rare record.
The last time this record appeared on eBay it was sold with its partner recording for $1800. See:http://www.popsike.com/php/detaildata.php?itemnr=4713699375.
As always, I look forward to answering inquiries from potential buyers - and, as usual, I am sure I will learn a lot about this recording I did not know.
Note: Since listing this item I have had it professionally cleaned at The Analog Room in San Jose. I doubt there is any siginificant difference in surface quality since the reord was pressed. The record has been placed in a Mobile Fidelity Master Record sleeve; the original sleeve is obviously still available for absolute integrity of the original package.
