MILT JACKSON – MILT JACKSON – BLUE NOTE 1509 – 767 LEXINGTON AVE NYC – M-/EX - FLAT RIM – MONO
There are three sessions on this first Blue Note first release on 12 inch vinyl. The first was recorded on April 7, 1952 and joining Milt Jackson on vibes are Lou Donaldson on alto, John Lewis on piano, Percy Heath on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums. Their selections are ON SIDE 1: LILLIE, TAHITI; WHAT’S NEW; BAG’S GROOVE; ON THE SCENE and WILLOW WEEP FOR ME. On SIDE 2, recorded on July 23, 1951, joining Milt Jackson are Sahib Shihab on alto, Thelonious Monk on piano, Al McKibbon on bass and Art Blakey on drums. They perform: CRISS CROSS; WILLOW WEEP FOR ME; ERONEL and FOUR IN ONE. The last session, recorded on July 2, 1948 features Milt Jackson with Thelonious Monk on piano, John Simmons on bass and Shadow Wilson on drums. They perfrom: MISTERIOSO AND EPISTROPHY. The address on the label is “767 Lexington Ave N.Y.C.” and the address on the record jacket is “767 Lexington Ave., New York 21” There is an “EAR” stamped into the blank vinyl, as well as the initials “RVG” on both sides of the LP. The edge of the LP is flat. This is a MONO recording.
I have graded the vinyl as M- and the record jacket as EX for the following reasons. The vinyl is clean of any marks on both sides of the LP. There is no sign of wear in or around the spindle hole. The vinyl retains its original luster. There is a name tag on Side 1. The record jacket just misses a M- grade, as it has some slight damage on the liner notes, just below the title, but does not effect the liner notes as such. Other than that, it is in excellent condition, with no taped seams and very little discoloration. If you have any questions, please email me and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks.
