Mina Carson -- Smile At Me and Swear You Never Had a Doubt LP
June, 1970
Original 1970 stereo private pressing on Trans Radio (Boston MA) (catalog # TR 1022), with blank sleeve that has hand-painted title and signature by Mina Carson.Completely obscure private pressing loner-protest folk LP from female singer Mina Carson. Solo vocal and acoustic guitar. "Christ Was A Hippie" jumps out as the signature song here -- an angry and funny rant, though there are some strong and sad, wistful tracks like "John John", "I'm Quiet Now", "Friend". An anti-Vietnam War track, some questioning of organized religion, but mostly a deeply personal and spiritual record, somber and moody.

Here's an excerpt from her bio at the Oregon State website: Carson is also a musician, having been one of those "girls with guitars" since junior high school in the 1960s. She collaborated with Dr. Susan Shaw of the OSU Women Studies program and Dr. Tisa Lewis of the Montreat (N.C.) College Social Science faculty on Girls Rock: Fifty Years of Women Making Music (University Press of Kentucky, 2004), a multifaceted venture with film and publication components.They are currently editing a short film, Loud!, on the first Rock and Roll Camp for Girls.
