Al Jourgensen has long distanced himself from Ministry's synth-pop origins, treating their 1983 debut With Sympathy like the album that never was. But with The Squirrely Years Revisited, he finally reclaims that era - very much on his own terms. This is not a reissue or rehash of the material, but rather a full-throttle re-recording of early Ministry and Wax Trax singles, filtered through the industrial fury he helped pioneer. Tracks like 'Work for Love', 'Revenge', and 'I'll Do Anything for You' now feature heavier guitars, snarling vocals and grinding percussion, yet they remain faithful enough to retain the catchy, darkwave charm of the originals. 'Everyday Is Halloween' gets another makeover, but the synth textures and clean vocals show that Jourgensen hasn't buried the past under distortion entirely. What's most amazing is how timeless these songs sound. The romantic angst, pop hooks and electronic flourishes sound as good as ever. A welcome resurrection.
