Original 2-LP set in gatefold cover; private label with a limited pressing, 1979, original blue labels.

This double LP set on Nimbus Records exists squarely within the family of small private labels, like Strata East and Tribe, which issued deeply spiritual jazz. The music found in this set is serious, soulful, adventerous, often with extended deep solos, great rhythms, colors and textures; heavily African-influenced grooves matched with American post-Coltrane jazz. There are out-ish moments, but there is no free blowing here-- just great searching and stretching.

This double-LP is one of pianist-composer Horace Tapscott few recordings of his large emsembles, and it actually features four different versions of the ensemble. Most of the sidemen are now obscure except for altoist Michael Session, Red Callender on tuba and bassist Roberto Miranda. Worth it.

CONDITION

LPs: M- with full lustre and gloss on all four sides. All four sides play quietly, cleanly--highly enjoyable.  Little signs of use or handling: all four spindle holes are clean and tight.

Jacket: M-  in beautiful like-new condition: clean and clear with bright graphics and color; artist name, LP title and record company serial number text on the spine is perfectly centered; with little to no sign of age or wear; slight typical bumping at corners (No deletion cuts, notches, punches; no shop wear, ring wear, edge wear, split seams or other wear).

Packaging

All LPs are shipped in new poly outer sleeves and new paper sleeves when called for. All open LP reocrds will have the discs removed from their jackets before shipping. All LPs are carefully and sturdily enclosed in bubble wrap and enclosed in a new corrugated cardboard LP mailer, which is reinforced with heavy duty packing tape or duct tape. The weight of a single LP packed properly is about 1 lb 3 oz. My packing is sound and secure, but I always recommend purchasing insurance to cover your purchase.
