Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 22,000+ positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates. BEAUTIFUL MINT FINAL COLLECTION ARIFACT
  1. Highly Sought ... 1968 ORIGINAL,
  2. Local Los Angeles, California PSYCH ROCK GEM!

Discovered by legendary recording artist, producer and arranger H.B. Barnum and signed to his Mothers Records label in 1968, The Novells, a very cool sounding Los Angeles/ West Coast PSYCH-ROCK outfit, who managed to release That Did It! - sadly calling it a day a year later ..........
Actually it was Barnum, whose arrangement credits included work for Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Etta James, The Supremes, The Temptations and Aretha Franklin, held the NOVELLES in the recording studio, by urging guys to submit different styles in order to appeal to a wider range audience.
While The NOVELLES respond valiantly with an array of West Coast pop-psych crafts, the group, as remembered by a fan of the group were much more hard edged with consistent killer fuzz guitar when performing.
So, while the H.B. Barnum was an accomplished producer, he was accomplished in an entirely different style more akin to what the '60s teen scene parents were listing to. The extinguished H.B. Barnum knew the Novelles were a talent, so he was trying to dabble in the '60s teen set aiming to catch lightning in a bottle more than anything else.
All said and done, The NOVELLES were better than a top 40 hit making machine and H.B. Barnum clearly found he had taken on far more than he could chew.  The highly praised underground rock NOVELLES well highly crafted, and overly impressive ... "That Did It!" was a nice blend of West Coast rock melodies and heavier fuzz rock -- which was not Barnum's thing at all.

He did manage to convince the band to do a cover of Otis Redding's 'Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay - which was okay yet proof served the band better to focus on their pleasing killer "underground" rock sound.

All said the Novelles album is ranked high within global collectors markets.

The obscure local Los Angeles "Mothers" label never allowed the item to be an easy find, although the 'nuggets' over both sides are as strong as any similar band offerings from the era.
Highlights include the tasty fuzz guitar on psych rock tracks such as 'Love' and others, linked by cool pop-psych melodies found are evidence of the Novelles ability to offer an ample supply of impressive styles.
The Novelles only album remains surprisingly great, remaining a highly worthy item to add to your library, that is, IF one can find or afford a copy.
