COLLECTORS WELCOME

This a rare gem for diehard Hendrix fans: an original 1971 US first press sealed copy of the 10-track posthumous vinyl LP, “The Cry Of Love” by Jimi Hendrix. Released in the States under REPRISE RECORDS label the year after Hendrix died. The album comes in a GATEFOLD picture sleeve that is still in its original FACTORY SEALED plastic shrink. Affixed to the outside plastic on the front cover is the original clear and yellow Reprise 'HYPE' sticker. The record and sleeve are in MINT/NEAR MINT condition respectively (see full description below for complete details).

This is an authentic first US pressing of this title. It is not a re-issue, an import, or a counterfeit pressing. It comes from the vast personal record collection of a 20+ year music executive of London Records. The thickness of the vinyl, the appearance and the construction of the cover, the label’s logo, and other peripheral elements of the cover are all perfectly consistent with the original first pressing of this title in the States.

RECORD CONDITION: MINT

Never opened, never used, never damaged. Preserved since production in its original factory sealed plastic shrink-wrap.

SLEEVE CONDITION: MINT/NEAR MINT

The gatefold sleeve is in UNBELIEVABLE condition. It is truly a hairsbreadth away from being full-on mint. There is one minuscule friction spot at the tip of the bottom spine-side corner’s edge that’s so small you almost can’t see it. Other than that, the corners are sharp and without signs of wear, the front and back covers are flawless, the edges are all straight and clean and with no signs of damage or flaw. The seams of the original factory sealed plastic shrink are intact without splits or breaks. There are air holes visible on the front and back sides of cover.

  • No cut-out (drill) holes
  • No cut-out corners
  • No saw-marks or indents
  • No dirt/dust rubbing stains
  • No wrinkles/creases
  • No split seams
  • No stains
  • No yellowing from aging
  • No writing
  • No stamps
  • No tape or peel-off marks
  • No retail or price stickers
  • No mold or mildew spots
  • No water damage
  • No warping
  • No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover
  • No glue traces or wax residue
  • No barcodes

Lastly, I used added light and a magnifier to inspect three places where I could see little specks of something, but I wasn’t sure what and I wanted to share that info with any potential buyers scrutinizing the condition: (#1) on the back cover there is a tiny white fleck of paper or something that is actually trapped inside the plastic, but is not an actual mark on the cover, nor paint or similar on the outside plastic; (#2) slightly above that there is an even smaller off-white speck and (#3) another identical tiny one at the top corner of the sleeve’s spine; both of which, upon close inspection, are just part of the printed image.

DISCOGRAPHY:

The Cry of Love is a posthumous compilation album by Jimi Hendrix and the first studio record to be released after his death. All of the songs were written by Hendrix and include some of his last studio work — material he had been working on for a planned fourth studio album. While most of the songs were included on proposed track listings by Hendrix, the final selection was made by recording engineer Eddie Kramer and drummer Mitch Mitchell, with input from manager Michael Jeffery. Hendrix, Kramer, and Mitchell are credited as the producers, with Jeffery as the executive producer.

Released on March 5, 1971, by Reprise Records in the United States and Track Records in the United Kingdom, the album was successful on the record charts in both countries and was eventually certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1998. Critics responded favorably to the album, viewing it as an impressive tribute to Hendrix.
