PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over +21,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! Highly acclaimed dark progressive prog adventure from 1970 ...the remarkable 2nd LP by Peter Hammill and Van der Graaf Generator...
....................................................
"Darkness (11/11)" opens with subtle mysterious sounds, where the song elements slowly appear, creating a typical and great Van der Graaf Generator composition, having anxious melody and aggressive wailing vocals of Peter dictating a long poem, and strong presence of bass guitar, keyboards and reeds. The elements brewed in their first "Aerosol Grey Machine" have matured to the sound dominating their heyday career starting with this record. "Refugees" is possible the most appreciated song here, being a ballad for hippies with chamber orchestrations and power and style resembling beyond "The Whiter Shade of Pale". This is many fans favourite song of this band! "White Hammer" starts solemnly with the church organs, turning to more sinister sounds and theme, being about the medieval inquisition. The final moments of the long song start to chart the iconoclastic zones of terror dominating more further their upcoming two studio albums. "Whatever Would Robert Have Said?" is a more calmer melodic song driven by organ / winds / acoustic guitar, having complex passage and calm floating middle part. It was also filmed to the German Beat Club television show. "Out Of My Book" is an acoustic ballad for acoustic guitar and flute. The album is finished by over eleven minutes long "After The Flood", which again starts in a pretty way, and then moves to more disturbing dark areas. This track has most adventurous solutions in it, and lots of rhythm / theme changes. It's great, less coherent arrangements, flowing with avant garde elements and appreciated by many fans of the storied band. If you dig this song, go straight to their "Pawn Hearts" album next.

Track by track:
Darkness: The title of the song is perfectly chosen - It says all about the band and their (new) image and they really started to discover it here. This song is magical, dark and colourful at the same time. An furious start all the way!
Refugees: If there is one representative ballad for symphonic prog, that would be it. The song is about leaving home and go to another place to live there (a personal written piece by Peter Hammill). One of the most moving songs in prog!
White Hammer: An epic with an scary, harsh ending part, interestening lyrics and dark atmosphere throughout the song.
Whatever Would Robert Have Said?: A piece with relaxed intro but a wild, proggy middle-part, great guitar-work in the ending part. Variation in a nice way.
Out Of My Book: The second ballad on the album, with once more personal lyrics by Peter Hammill. The instrumental work is simple, but very effective, especially the acoustic guitar is very good, also the organ. Peter Hammill's voice is very sentimental and shining too. Nice piece!
After The Flood: The closing track and fascinating epic. The song is about over eleven minutes long and isn't as aggressive as "White Hammer", but very beautiful, the flute part after three and a half minutes reminds a bit on Jethro Tull. Check it out, imagine Ian Anderson on flute here! The song is getting faster after more than five minutes and the winds of David Jackson takes a big part in duality with Hugh Banton's volcanic organ playing.
