Der Cellist Mischa Maisky und die Pianistin Daria Hovora präsentieren hier eine wunderbare Aufnahme von Schuberts liedhafter Sonate für Arpeggione und Klavier sowie Instrumentalversionen einiger der beliebtesten Lieder des Komponisten. Musik kann kaum intimer oder herzerreißender sein als  das “Ständchen” oder “Der Müller und der Bach”, und es ist auch schwer vorstellbar, sich eine emotional beredtere Stimme vorzustellen als Mischa Maiskys wehmütige Klänge.

... Maiskys "Arpeggione" ist warm, mühelos und größtenteils vernünftig phrasiert. Darla Hovora bleibt diskret im Hintergrund (als Musikerin, nicht, was ihre physische Präsenz angeht) und obwohl ich einiges vom Rubato im Allegretto ein klein wenig gekünstelt fand, ist es eine gute Aufführung ... Maisky produziert einen wunderschönen Klang, insbesondere beispielsweise in "An die Musik", wo die oberen Tonlagen des Cellos mit großer Wärme erklingen ...

... Maisky's "Arpeggione" is warm, effortless and, for the most part, judiciously phrased. Darla Hovora remains discreetly in the background (as a musical personality, that is, not as a physical presence) and although I found some of the Allegretto's rubato just a mite contrived, the performance is a good one ... Maisky makes a lovely sound, especially in, say, "An die Musik", where the cello's upper registers project with great warmth of tone ... (Gramophone)
