Original mono LP, released 1966 on the Philips label, catalogue no. PD 199, Australian pressing. Laminated front cover,flipback rear cover.

The Missing Links are regarded as one of the most extraordinary Australian bands of their, or any other time. To quote Ian D.Marks in his excellent book Wild About You - The Sixties Beat Explosion in Australia and New Zealand :

" In barely three years of their existence, the legendary Links managed to survive one complete line-up change, make headlines with their outrageously long hair (which actually was long, not just a shaggy fringe), incorporate feedback and onstage destruction while many bands were still politely trotting out Beatles and Shadows covers in shiny suits, and, finally, release the most startlingly experimental and uncommercial Australian album of the 1960s before swiftly self-destructing in a haze of over-indulgence, paranoia and general rock'n'roll craziness. Yes, the Missing links were punk pioneers. Too loud, too outrageous, too unstable, too provocative, too young, too dirty, toodestructive, too scary - too much". 

The LP up for auction is the original mono 1966 pressing which features the band superimposed around a huge convict ball-and-chain. This album is incredibly rare with only 500 or so copies being pressed (Marks & McIntyre, 2010) . All the Philips single sides are on the album (e.g. Wild About You, Drivin Me Insane etc), except for Somethin' Else, which remained unissued until the 1999 Drivin' You Insane CD release by Half-A-Cow records.

CONDITION:

Record   VG- : Visually ,the vinyl looks pretty ordinary with a reasonable number of sleeve scuffs & surface marks (fewer on Side2) and about four or five, what seem to be quite prominent, scratches on each side.The lustre however,is still remarkably good. Even more surprising is the playability- both sides play very well, the dynamics are still excellent given the lo-fi production of the time, easily overpowering the surface noise - except during some of Hobo Man, Bald-Headed Woman and Nervous Breakdown where some audible clicks or crackling can be heard. Labels are very clean, without writing or stickers.

Cover  VG: The laminated cover is in very good condition with excellent colour saturation - the pink lettering on the ball is still striking to the eye along with the black and white photo of the band. The laminate is still nice and glossy despite some scuffing and some impression ring wear. Spine shows numerous small splits along its length however the title and most of the catalogue number are still very legible. Corners are slightly dog-eared. Some small splits and laminate chips missing along the top and bottom margins of the cover (mainly bottom edge). Sleeve opening showing some wear along its edge. Rear cover with photos still in great condition - white background has aged to an off-white colour. Some creasing associated with ring wear. No writing or stickers on either side of the cover.

In summary,an extremely rare LP of an iconic Australian group which would be a welcome addition (until you can get that elusive near-mint copy!) to any serious collector of 60's Australian beat.
