When the Tokens got into housecleaning mode, circa 1971, they issued some of the (for the time) least commercially-viable LP projects in history. Tax write-offs? One wonders. They dug a great deal of unissued/rare material from their production vaults. Apparently, the issuance of the LPs was tiresome work, for the eccentric/slapdash methodology present here.

Bizarre, quick-sketch color cover art, worthy of a 1970 junior prom poster... a typo in one of the group names (the Satins Four, formerly the Del Satins, proteges of Dion DiMucci) and a commercial-suicide renaming of the popular girl group The Chiffons (who were, technically, still allied to Laurie Records, although their hitmaking days were far behind them).

The Chiff, er, Cinnamon Angels commandeer tracks 1, 2 and 5 of side 1, plus a crossover with the Satans, er, Satins on track 6.

Why was this oddball album released? Who knows? But with their last-dash efforts, the Bright Tunes boys did the world of the future an enormous favor. They created rare collector's items that hold music of surprisingly high quality--especially for admirers of the girl group and '60s pop sounds.

How's it sound, you might well ask? Here's a toe-tappin' taster in the album's A-side closing track--a rousing pop collaboration of the CHIFFONS/CINNAMON ANGELS/CINNAMONS THREE/CINNAMONS FOUR and DEL SATINS/SATINS FOUR/SATANS FOUR/SATAN'S FOUR, in the bouncy, bright "Calypso Girl," which was also a doomed single culled from the LP:

Condition:

JACKET: Clean, bright front panel. Top and bottom seams are stubbed/frayed at outer end. Bottom seam has 2" split, but no paper or cardboard is missing. Spine is smooth; all text is intact. Stress line to lower left-hand corner, which has a stubbed corner. Top left corner is sharp.

Back panel has cello tape to top left area, right at seam. Small stress lines to to lower left and right corners of back area. Otherwise, it’s complete and clean. Overall, this sleeve is a solid VG+++/EX-.

VINYL: Vinyl retains great luster. Some paper scuffs from original inner sleeve, but these do not affect play, as "Calypso Girl" shows. Labels are smooth and clean. A strong M-.

May this record do better than "A Side/B Side," which sold last week for WAY below market value...

To clarify: This is the impossibly hard to find American pressing of the album, with unique cover art as shown in the main picture. We could find documentation of only three previous sales of the LP on eBay, and all three of them were Australian pressings bearing the generic "scenery" photo you see above.
