This auction is for the following rare LP:
MOZART - CLARINET CONCERTO IN A MAJOR / HORN CONCERTOS 1 & 3 played by LONDON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA.
SOLOISTS - GERVASE DE PEYER and BARRY TUCKWELL.
CONDUCTOR - PETER MAAG.
UK STEREOPHONIC DECCA SXL 2238 from 1960 with WIDE BAND 'MADE IN ENGLAND' logo with BLACK AND SILVER labels.
Anyone looking at this listing knows how rare this is...but I will allow the bidders to decide it's true value here.
THE RECORD - EXCELLENT MINUS CONDITION, VISUALLY.
THE LP NEEDS A CLEAN AS IT HAS FINGERPRINTS AND SETTLED DUST ESPECIALLY AROUND THE EDGE OF THE RECORD AND IN THE RUN-OUT AREA. THE REST OF THE SURFACE IS GENERALLY CLEAN AND IS FREE FROM ANY SCRATCHES AND SCUFFS. ONLY MINIMAL SIGNS OF PLAY ARE EVIDENT.
WHEN PLAYED, THE LP SOUNDS WONDERFUL ALTHOUGH I AM SURE IT WOULD IMPROVE WITH A GOOD CLEAN USING YOUR PREFERRED METHOD OR CLEANING MACHINE.
LABELS - VERY NICE - FULLY READABLE WITH MINIMAL SPINDLE MARKS.
INNER SLEEVE - PRESENT.
COVER - THE COVER IS ENTIRELY COMPLETE AND FREE FROM WRITING, LABELS, STICKERS OR OTHER SUCH BLEMISHES. FEINT CREASES AND SOME MILD RINGWEAR ON THE UNLAMINATED REVERSE ARE THE ONLY THINGS PREVENTING THIS FROM GRADING EXCELLENT OR ABOVE. STRONG SPINE WITH MINIMAL WEAR. VERY GOOD PLUS/EXCELLENT MINUS. A SHAME ALL 60s LPs DON'T TURN UP LIKE THIS TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH!
So, there it is - NOT MINT but close...and a super rare item.
I think my minimum bid is fair in comparison to other copies I have seen on ebay and elsewhere in the last few years (not that there have been many).
