MUDDY WATERS/FOLK SINGER -- The most talked about true audiophile blues recording finally received the Classic vinyl treatment. Captured from the original 1964 Chess Analog Master Tapes, this is an intimate and spooky studio production. FOLK SINGER is a heralded recording from the King of the Delta Blues equally for its sonic qualities as for its content. Originally released on Chess in 1964, this title has repeatedly surfaced on Audiophiles Top 20 Lists for its superior sound, (this Pressing is unquestionably the best ever) Rare for most true pre-80s Blues recordings.
FOLK SINGER represents a departure from the electric urban Blues sound that Muddy Waters pioneered. It is an all acoustic collection of recordings that illustrates his deep rooted rural Blues influences reminiscent of the recordings he made nearly 25 years prior in Mississippi.
This release features Muddy Waters on Vocals and Guitar supported by the great Buddy Guy on Guitar, Blues Legend, Willie Dixon on Bass, and Clifton James on occasional Drums. Tracks include MY HOME IS IN THE DELTA, LONG DISTANCE, GOOD MORNING LITTLE SCHOOL GIRL, COLD WEATHER BLUES, BIG LEG WOMAN and much more

Great musical events are often born of both positive and negative energies clashing with one another. And so it was at the Newport Festival in 1960, which had already been rocked by violent tumults even before it started. The allures of commerce raised its ugly head; the Mingus Band wanted their share and named a fee that the organizers were not willing to fulfill. The echo came quickly: Charles Mingus and Max Roach organized their own festival in the near-by Cliff Walk Manor Hotel, and the "Newport Rebels" were born. Tempers escalated during the Saturday night concert and commotion broke out when masses of drunken teenagers got into a fight with the security personnel. Newport was on the brink of disaster.
In the midst of this explosive atmosphere, and standing on the (quite literally) rotten planks of the festival stage, Muddy Waters performed songs which captured his audience's ears and heart, and called attention to his unique Chicago blues. For many white people, this night was the very first time that they heard and saw a live performance by a black band. Numbers such as "I Got My Brand On You", "Hoochie Coochie Man", and "Tiger In Your Tank" are just as legendary as the members of the band, first and foremost James Cotton with his mouth organ and Otis Spann on the piano, who is also to be heard as a vocalist in "Goodbye Newport Blues". About half-an-hour of highly concentrated, honest and passionate songs - just pure and unadulterated Muddy Waters' blues.
"Waters was starting to draw a wider pop audience when he performed this live concert. It's got his classics — "Hoochie Coochie Man"; the set closer, "Got My Mojo Working" — with a band that's tough, tight and in the groove. James Cotton's harmonica jams are a special treat." -

Deluxe Gatefold Edition!
The Real Folk Blues is a 1966 compilation album of Muddy Waters recordings, released on the Chess record label in January 1966. The album was the first release of The Real Folk Blues series and has since been re-released on multiple formats. The album features some of Waters' first recordings. In 2017, the album was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in the category of 'Classics of Blues Recordings Album'.
"Once Chess discovered a white folk-blues audience ripe and ready to hear the real thing, they released a series of albums under the Real Folk Blues banner. This is one of the best entries in the series, a mixed bag of early Chess sides from 1949-1954, some of it hearkening back to Muddy's first recordings for Aristocrat with only Big Crawford on strings in support, with some wonderful full band sides rounding out the package to give everyone the big picture. A couple of highlights to pay special attention to are the cha cha/shuffle strut of the band charging through 'Walkin' Through the Park' and the 'I'm a Man'-derived nastiness of 'Mannish Boy'." - Cub Koda, AllMusic

This is great music
This is Muddy in his younger years, recorded on several dates spanning 1948-1952 at what were probably his first amplified sessions. Great tracks include the scorching "She's Alright", "Kind Hearted Woman" and "Honey Bee." More Real Folk Blues (originally released in 1967 on the famed Chess Records) is an essential early Muddy Waters compilation for Chicago Blues fans.
As the liner notes by Crawdaddy Magazine's Paul Williams state: "Listening to Muddy Waters is as simple as forgetting your zip code; you just relax your mind, let go of the little things and let the blues come through, clean and easy. When Muddy sings, you feel the blues, and you feel the joy that goes with them."

Waters' earlier work had been built around his returning to sounds and influences from his past. Here, the label tried to give him a new sound. Stripped of his guitar, Waters proves what a great R&B singer he was. Featuring Otis Spann on piano, and Sammy Lawhorn and Pee Wee Madison on guitar. MUDDY "MISSISSIPPI"WATERS - LIVE with JOHNNY WINTER ON GUITAR - Out of Print PRESSING FROM THE ORIGINAL LABEL RE-ISSUE CBS BLUE SKY PZ 35712 RECORDS SEALED LP and one of the last pieces left in the world from this final pressing.-
The audience is totally into it, both on this song and the entire album--screaming, yelling, whistling, shouting--making this almost as exciting as "James Brown at the Apollo," and certainly among the best live blues ever recorded.
The group is unbelievably talented and plays with great empathy: Muddy Waters on vocals and guitar, "Pine Top" Perkins (piano), James Cotton (harp), additional guitar from Johnny Winter, Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson, and many others. I don't hear any softening of Muddy Waters' voice; he is as authoritative, soulful, and unique as ever. Muddy Waters set a very high (probably unsurpassed) standard for anyone who followed. It's sheer delight to hear his inventive singing and slide guitar so well recorded and backed.
Perhaps the most memorable concert I ever attended was a late 1970's performance at the Roxy in L.A. As Muddy Waters walked up to the stage, I felt a sense of transcendentalism, as if History were climbing the stairs. And then he tore the roof off. Although only about 40 minutes long (and with notes limited to personnel descriptions), the music on this ALBUM recaptured some of that experience for me.
Along with "Mannish Boy" and the great "She's Nineteen Years Old," other Morganfield compositions (there's one number written by Sonny Boy Williamson) include "Streamline Woman," "Baby Please Don't Go," "Howling Wolf," and "Deep Down in Florida." 'Wolf' features Waters' bee-stingingly intense slide guitar, one that can righteously cut through the thickest, meanest heart and soul. With just a few perfectly played notes, Waters' slide guitar dredges buckets of emotion. "Gainesville'--perhaps the best song here ("Yeah I believe I'll go back to Gainesville...just to see an old friend of mine.")--has amazing solos by "Pine Top" Perkins, Johnny Winter, and James Cotton, who blows some of the purest and most stirring harp notes in blues.
This is the liturgy of the blues, the thick ooze of the traditional and the familiar wrapped with enough personal style to uncover new emotion. Powerful, raw, and spine tingling, this is the blues as only McKinley "Muddy Waters" Morganfield could play it.

MUDDY WATERS - KING BEE - Out of Print BLUE SKY/CBS LABEL PZ37064 LP -
Muddy Waters' final album, KING BEE is the last of the three late-seventies/early eighties-albums produced by Texas blues guitarist Johnny Winter, -- its two excellent predecessors, "Hard Again" and "I'm Ready. 66-year old Waters is backed by virtually the same band that he worked with on "Hard Again" and "I'm Ready", and the arrangements are superb, making even somewhat mediocre songs like the light-weight "Champagne And Reefer" and the generic "Too Young To Know" work quite well. :
There's the classic, shuffling "Mean Old Frico Blues", Muddy Waters' fine take on Slim Harpo's "King Bee", the slow blues "Sad Sad Day", the supremely funky "(My Eyes) Keep Me In Trouble", and the acoustic masterpiece "I Feel Like Going Home" (superb Son House-inspired slide guitar playing by Johnny Winter). The power and brute force of Muddy ripping through these great is something to behold. A good collection of solid, professionally executed blues music which will certainly appeal to Muddy-fans.
MUDDY WATERS - I'M READY WITH JOHNNY WINTER ON GUITAR - Out of Print PRESSING FROM THE ORIGINAL LABEL RE-ISSUE CBS BLUE SKY RECORDS SEALED LP PZ34928 and one of the last pieces left in the world from this final pressing.- For the middle album of his Johnny Winter-produced, late-'70s music trilogy, blues giant Muddy Waters brought a new spirit to some familiar material. Starting with members of Waters' touring band – Pinetop Perkins, Bob Margolin, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith – Winter added underrated guitarist (and longtime Waters foil) Jimmy Rogers and extraordinary harp player Big Walter Horton to the mix. The songs recorded for I'm Ready offer a mix of new material and vintage hit singles like the title cut, the mid-'60s jewel "Screamin' and Cryin'," or the Willie Dixon-penned "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man."
Johnny Winter provides a sensitive production touch. With old hands James Cotton, Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Rogers, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Bob Margolin, Jerry Portnoy and Walter Horton. Walters is fully in command again, inspired and roaring as the players fall under his spell.1. I'm Ready

MUDDY WATERS ELECTRIC MUD CADET RECORDS 314 FREE BONUS MINT LP
Warning: "Electric Mud" is a blues album with heavy psychedelic rock influences! If you consider yourself to be a blues purist, then I would encourage you to look elsewhere for something that will be more compatible with your musical tastes. With that disclaimer out of the way, let me invite those who are seeking something unusual--and especially those who like sixties rock music--to continue reading on.
I consider this to be one of most original albums that I have ever heard. It is not a true blues album, but rather a concept album of blues with a heavy psychedelic rock influence. The idea for this album had its genesis with Marshall Chess, the son of Leonard Chess of Chess Records. Marshall Chess had just founded a new label named Cadet Concept, and this was the second album produced under the new label. When this album was recorded, Waters' career was in a slump; it had been a decade since he had a top ten hit. Marshall Chess was seeking out a new audience for Muddy Waters.
The basic instrumentation on this album includes a heavily distorted guitar (often with wah-wah pedal), fuzz-tone electric bass, saxophone, synthesizer, and drums. This is quite a stretch from the trademark Muddy Waters sound! The ALBUM points out that "five of the eight songs on 'Electric Mud' were 'classics' from his catalogue, songs he had sung hundreds, perhaps thousands, of times. So the Main Man sang as he always had. His accompaniment, however, was very much of the moment." It is well known that many of the rock musicians of the sixties had blues influences. Now, here is a genuine bluesman cutting an album with new renditions of his songs, such as "I Just Want To Make Love To You," "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man," and "Mannish Boy," in more of a rock style. There is even a cover of the Rolling Stones hit "Let's Spend The Night Together." Wouldn't you agree that's a cool concept for an album?
The vocals are one of the strong selling points of this album, and Muddy Waters has a great voice. The lyrics include occasional social commentary appropriate for the times. All of the musicians on this album were highly regarded studio players.
I have tried to be as helpful as possible by warning the prospective buyer about what this album is about, but I hope that blues purists will not be offended by my saying that I really like this album. To be sure, it is not for everyone, but it is for me. I think that "Electric Mud" is very original and unique, and I value having it as a part of my collection.
