Original 1972 7” vinyl made in Greece on the Amha label. Both sides are sung in Amharic, the language most widely spoken in Ethiopia. MULAKEN MELLESSEE is one of many artists that released records during the Golden Years of vinyl in Ethiopia. The A side is a very likeable song and the b side sounds somewhat sad. Many artists were showcased on Ethiopian television on the variety show. This single was released in 1972, two years before Emperor HAILIE SELASSIE (Ras Tafari Makonnen) was overthrown by the Derg in 1974. The crackdown on music releases began after he was deposed. Further information about Ethiopian jazz, folk and ballads is available on the internet and discogs site. This is quite RARELY available and is an original 7” vinyl single from 1972. The vinyl plays all the way through without jumping. It does have a lot of scratches which you can see when you hold it up to the light. The vinyl is extremely worn down so I’ve given it a grading of POOR OR WORN to be safe as it has been played a lot and there is a lot of crackling but it doesn’t jump or stick. The vocal is audible on both sides. The labels are good but it has a name written on the A side. It comes in a plain white new sleeve as the original sleeve is long gone. I do have some other Ethiopian vinyls to list on the Amha and Phillips labels to list of similar quality and less so. This vinyl has a value of between £25 to £104 according to discogs website. That obviously depends on the condition, scarcity and availability. Currently none are available for sale on discogs. Please note the condition of this 50 year old record before you bid. It has been cleaned but if it was professionally cleaned, the sound would benefit more.
