You are bidding on an rare, ORIGINAL 1966 pressing of MULATU ASTATKE AND HIS ETHIOPIAN QUINTET lp, on Worthy Records W-1014. Side 1) I Faram Gami I Faram, Mascaram Setaba, Shagu, One for Buzayhew, Alone In The Crowd. Side 2) Almaz Mulatu’s Hideaway, Askum, A Kiss Before Dawn, Playboy Cha Cha. Wild! Pulsating! Mulatu is a multi-talented musician, composer, arranger, and has created a new sound "Aftro-Latin Soul." He has taken the ancient five-tone scale of Asia and Africa and woven them into something unique and exciting; a mixture of three cultures, Ethiopian, Puerto Rican and American. Mulatu masterfully jumps from vibes to piano to drums. Rudy Houston switches from piano to trumpet to give a soul-stirring rendition of a haunting melody. Felix Torres and John Perez, keep up an exciting conga and bongo background along with the reall boss bass of Robert Cuadrado and the tremendous tybali work of Tony Pearson. "Mulatu Astatke is perhaps the most important and influential musician to come out of Ethiopia in the second half of the twentieth century. his inspired synthesis of jazz and afro-cuban styles with the musical traditions of his home country has produced a body of work that stands alone in the fields of spiritual jazz and soulful, meditative grooves". VG+ album cover has a few small brown foxing spots (nothing serious), clear scotch tape across the bottom edge. The cover displays very well. Vinyl in shiny VG condition, micro scratches on both sides, some light scuffs on the A side. Side one (last track): Alone In The Crowd, has two, very-very, light skips, hardly noticable, they kind of blend in with the song. I’ve tested the record and it can be enjoyed.
