Mary MUNDY

Yesterday Is Gone

Epsilon

7" Cat: EPS 037
Rel: 22 Jun 26
Disco/Nu Disco/Re-Edits Side 1. Yesterday Is Gone Side 2. What A Day

Epsilon continue their reliable run of excavating the overlooked end of the soul-disco continuum, following a trail trodden by fellow reissuers Real Gone after they reissued this singer's sole album, Mother Nature. Identified by soul heads as a rare breed, Mary Mundy (not to be confused with the English actress) is praised spoilt, beloved genre-wide for her trademark blend of heavy disco soul gestures and powerful Hartford vocals. Her career developed in close association with producer Lew Hanson, active across Caribbean and soul scenes after his RAF service in the 1940s; it was almost entirely bracketed by his influence, Hanson working closely with Mundy throughout the 70s and 80s. Two exclusives, 'Yesterday Is Gone' with The Elements and 'What A Day' filling the B; impeccably recorded, triumphant soul piners, the latter track carrying a hint of reggae.
