Description

MUSIC FROM SANTA CRUZ "Volume 1" LP

ORIGINAL 1978 LP on the AARDVARK label, STEREO

Cover in MINT shape, STILL IN THE ORIGINAL SHRINKWRAP

Vinyl plays VG++

Fascinating and seldom-seen private label folk psych compilation from 1978 featuring beautiful fragile femme folk, solo guitar and even some West Coast Eagles-inspired mid-70's stoner rock.  The two high points for me anyway include the great wispy spooky femme folk gem "Quail Song" by the late-blooming flower child Jan Luby, whose quivering vocals and sudden minor key diversions means she musta been a big fan of Stevie Nicks.  And the flanged-out spooky Bob Welch 70's rock stylings of "Misunderstood" by Greg Sonnleitner, who was probably a big fan of "Hypnotized" off of Fleetwood Mac's MYSTERY TO ME.  But when you think about it really, how can you live in 1978 California and NOT be influenced by Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac?  Bit of a no-brainer really.
