Description
This is an auction for a rare LP, Music Of Berlioz, Martinon, Paris Conservatoire Orchestra.
This was released by Decca Records in 1959 and has catalogue number SXL 2134. This is the 1st pressing with a black label and silver lettering. A deep circular groove runs around the label. The words 'Original Recording By The Decca Co Ltd London' are printed around the top half of the label. The Decca logo, also in silver, is printed in large letters, with the FFSS circular logo printed above the words 'Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound' which runs across a 1cm silver band that runs the width of the label. This label is sometimes referred to as 'EDI' (English Decca 1st Label) or can be referred to as 'WBg' (Wide Band grooved). This is of course Stereophonic.
The following is pictured on supersize below for complete clarification on condition.
Condition: The sleeve comes with light buffing to the very corners, a tiny tear to the mouth edge and a few light discolour marks, some of which will clean of the front laminated surface. There is a tiny amount of lamination peeling to the bottom right corner and a few tiny lamination creases. The rear has a couple of stickers on one of which appears to cover a pen mark. A nice sleeve, Spine & edges Ex, complete and graded at VG+.
This comes with its original 'FFSS' inner sleeve which has a pencil mark in the top right corner but is otherwise fine.
Labels: Both labels are pictured below on supersize. As you will see these are in superb condition having a few spider spindle trails only on each side. The centre hole is perfect and shows no signs of wear, again please check the pictures for clarification.
Vinyl: Appearance - Both sides look brand new and maintain that new rainbow shine. When tilted under a very strong light a few tiny feather scratches and the odd faint mark can be seen. These are completely non-audible.
I have play tested this record and have been simply blown away by the sound quality. Other than a few very quiet crackles/pops heard mostly on side 2 this played superbly well. Lovely clean breaks and entries, the music itself plays strong with no distortion, fading or dragging heard whatsoever. The above mentioned feckling is only heard a few times, is very quiet and only heard at the records quietest moments. This record plays with very little lessening, in some places, to no lessening in sound quality for a large majority of this record. This is as a superb edition to any collection.
This record is graded at Near Mint.
