'Pass The Dutchie' is the anthem that made them household names but Musical Youth were active and turning out gems long before that. This is one such thrilling discovery from the earliest days of the outfit and finds the Birmingham group locking into Jamaica's keyboard king Jackie Mittoo for an effects-laden, suitably dark rendition of his classic 'Mash Down Babylon'. It is heavyweight and atmospheric and far removed from the pop sheen you might usually associate with the group. The flip's 'Political Dub' is just as essential and strips the riddim back into something roomy and bloomy. Fine work once more from Roots Mythology's ongoing excavation of Musical Youth's early catalogue.
