PLEASE NOTE: It’s a bit hard to read the titles and artists on our scans, so please note that there are six sides but we only show one scan per artist. Please see the complete listings below. Thank you!

Highly collectible for Transcription Lovers!  We rate these as NOS Condition, although obviously they are not new.  Nice shiny surfaces, no scratches etc.  We think some may never have been played – no tell-tale marks around the spindle holes. 

MUZAK is known to the general public - if at all – as “Elevator Music” but they were also a Transcription Service, providing outstanding musical performances to radio stations to fill their broadcasts – in the days before DJs doing Weather – ID – Commercial – Music – and repeat.  Where pertinent, the type of music is indicated, and/or the name of an opera, musical or other source is supplied. 

The side of each record is indicated as either A or B.  For those folks under 65 or so who are not familiar with all this deep technology, there is no C.

For programming and clearance purposes, each title is followed by duration time down to the second, plus an abbreviation for (AS)ASCAP or (PD)Public Domain.  On some of our discs somebody failed to include the clearance abbreviation, so a special rubber stamp was made for use with a red ink pad to say, short and to the point: AS.  We have not found any for BMI, which was founded in 1939.  Surely these recordings are newer than that.     

If you’re over 65 or so, you well know what we mean.  We do – we were in broadcasting from 1950 on! 

DESCRIPTION:

Most of the discs have known ‘Society Orchestras’ either by name or pseudonym on one side, and organist Audrey Lynn on the other. Those by Miss Lynn have the notation following her name:  Organ Solo.  We can’t find information about her, but she certainly is a fine performer.  Perhaps this is a pseudonym also.   There is a female organist by the same name currently being seen on youtube.com, but clearly a younger person.

One of the discs was apparently owned by someone who just didn’t like record labels!  One side is completely missing, and the other is damaged but the normal information is present:

Benjamin Bernard ("Ben") Selvin 1898 –1980), son of Russian-immigrant Jewish parents, was a musician, bandleader, record producer and innovator in recorded music. He was known as The Dean of Recorded Music. He started his professional life at age 15 as a fiddle player in New York City night clubs. A "husky" lad, he looked older than he was and as such was permitted into such establishments.

A mere six years later, as leader of his own dance band, the "Novelty Orchestra," Selvin released the biggest-selling popular song in the first quarter-century of recorded music. That single, "Dardanella", eventually went on to sell more than six million copies and an additional million pieces of sheet music. Awarded a gold disc by the RIAA, it was presented to Selvin on his retirement on March 14, 1963.

According to The Guinness Book of World Records, he recorded more musical sides (on 78-rpm discs) than any other person. One reason for this prolific output is that he recorded for dozens of different labels during this high-growth time in the industry, using a different name (or slightly different name) for each label. Selvin's output has been estimated at 13,000 to 20,000 song titles! 

Lou Raderman was a violinist who played and recorded with many orchestras including his own  in the period between the two World Wars.  Not to be confused with trombonist Harry Raderman, who also had his own orchestra.

Nearly Octogenarians in the Treasure and Space Coast of Florida, we experience frequent power outages and strong storms which bring web, phone and computer problems.  Should we ever again be unable to ship or communicate promptly, please be patient and please do not advise eBay.
