Description
ORIGINAL SUN 45rpm single in very good condition. Both sides play well. Dust cover is generic tan version from the 1950's, not the original Sun jacket.
"I Forgot to Remember to Forget" is a country song written by Stan Kesler and Charlie Feathers. It was recorded in Sun Studios by Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore, and Bill Black on July 11, 1955, and released on August 20, 1955 along with Mystery Train (Sun 223). It was rereleased by RCA Victor (#47-6357) in December 1955. The song reached the Billboard national country music chart #1 position by February 1956, and remained there for 39 weeks, longer than any other Presley recording. This #1 rating would outlast that of "Don't Be Cruel"/"Hound Dog", released in 1956, by 11 weeks. It was the first recording to make Elvis Presley a national known country music star.
Elvis Presley's version of "Mystery Train" was first released on August 20, 1955 as the B-side of I Forgot to Remember to Forget (Sun 223). It was again produced by Sam Phillips at Sun Studios, and featured Presley on vocals and rhythm guitar, Scotty Moore on lead guitar and Bill Black on bass. RCA Victor rereleased this recording in December of 1955 (#47-6357) after acquiring it as part of a contract with Presley. This version of the song peaked at #11 on the national Billboard Country Chart.
LOOK: I received this record as a gift from an aunt in 1956. I'm not professionally qualified to rate items like this one since they seem to be graded like coins and diamonds. I'll be happy to add photos of surfaces upon request. It was always kept in the protective jacket and stored in a hard-sided album. If professionally graded, it might be in much better condition than my item description. "Very Good" is simply my wording/description of the record and not a precise grading. I have never had it examined, graded or evaluated by an expert.
The "I Forgot ..." side contains numbers between the playing surface and label: A triangle shape is followed by 5499. Nearby, the numbers 45-U-157x appear followed by a smaller 20.
Mystery Train side contains the triangle followed by 5498. The other numbers are 45-U-156x followed by a smaller 20.
All of this numbering/lettering appears to have been hand applied, ie. scratched into the surface. I'll be glad to send additional photos, upon request.
