Description
This is the complete 14-LP box set (plus a 15th bonus disc, featuring interviews with Mahler's daughter, other musicians who knew him, and Mahler piano rolls). The slipcase and inner binder are black leather, with a gold medallion image of Mahler. Also contains the 36-page booklet.
These were numbered limited editions and the number of this is 1076, as pictured.
The outer leather slipcase box is showing some signs of wear but is generally in good condition. Please look at pics. It must have been stored flat previously as the front cover has a small depression. The bonus record of interviews is worn on the top of the sleeve. I wonder how this was inserted into the box originally asthe person who left me these discs was so meticulous. I'm guessing it may have been stuck in somehow.
The discs look shiny and barely played. I have had a listen to some of the 1st and 4th symphonies and they sounded excellent.
This is Bernstein's first Mahler cycle and was the first (of now many) complete Mahler cycles with symphonies 1-9 recorded between 1960 and 1967 on the CBS label. Although they were not the first recordings of the individual symphonies, Bernstein's advocacy was an important part of the Mahler boom of the 1960s. This is a heavy item at almost 6kg. I will post abroad at cost price. The photos are not good for such a lovely item. I will try and get some better photos done over the next few days.
