Description
This is a 16 LP set of Mahler’s Nine Symphonies under Georg Solti. Solti conducts The London Symphony in Symphonies 1, 2, 3, and 9; The Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam in No. 4; and The Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Nos. 5, 6, 7, and 8. The soloists in No. 2 are Heather Harper and Helen Watts; In No. 3, Helen Watts; In No. 4 – Sylvia Stahlman; In No. 8, Heather Harper, Lucia Popp, Arleen Auger, Yvonne Minton, Helen Watts, Rene Kollo, John Shirley-Quirk, and Martti Talvela. In addition to the Nine Symphonies, Yvonne Minton also sings four songs from “Des Kanaben Wunderhorn”, and “Songs of a Wayfarer”. This set is an all analogue recording and was issued around 1972 to celebrate Solti’s 25th anniversary with London/Decca Records under catalog number CSP-7 and were pressed in England. The records are in excellent condition with no scratches or scuffs and have been cleaned with a VPI record cleaner and treated with Last record preservative. I recently recleaned and demagnetized them with a Furutech deMag Record demagnetizer and then listened to them. They are in excellent condition with very little surface noise and sound amazingly good. Several of the recordings in this set have appeared on the TAS (Absolute Sound) list of best recordings. The LP size booklet contains notes in English only and the text in German, Latin, and English and is in excellent condition with no tears or bends. The LPs and booklet are housed in a large box set that is in very good condition, but the foil front cover does have some scuffing and the corners are worn in spots. There is also approximately a 1” seam split along the left middle of the rear cover. The corners of the box are intact and the front cover is attached to the rear. Multiple LPs can be combined in a shipment to save shipping costs.
