Mansun - Six 2 LP (7423) 497 7231 (Parlophone, UK, 1998)
Original Pressing - 2LP in Gatefold with inners.
One of the best (and most overlooked) LPs of theBritpop era. With the same spirit that pervades Dog Man Star, Mansun went for broke creatively with the second album Six - a dense and thrilling "concept record" which invokes the pioneer spirit of the Beatles a-la Sgt Pepper much more than Oasis ever did. Also brings to mind Magazine (Mansun's biggest influence) and ahem, Gabriel-era Genesis. And it features Tom Baker (A 'Doctor Who') Now the critics have ate their words concerning "Dog Man Star", it's only a matter of time before Six will have it's time. Released in scarce amounts on vinyl (like many albums in the 90s), it's becoming increasingly hard to find. A superb album, and one made for the vinyl format.
Condition (IGrade NM / EX / VG+ / VG / VG - / G / F )
Sleeve - Very Good. The gatefold sleeve is a bit battered, but still holding on to it's beauty. A split at the top, a bumped spine at the top, worn at the bottom. A few marks and creases to front. Sticker still attached. The glossy inners pick up fingerprints quite easily, and have some creases. There is also a deletion hole through all the sleeve elements of the record.
Vinyl - VG+ There's a few marks, scuffs and faint scratches visible under strong light. There's crackle in the very quiet parts, particularly the run-ins (could do with a deep clean). A few (that's one or two) clicks too, though none that are particularly noticeable(a lot of the music is quite loud). These things aside, i think this sounds GREAT. A quite a brilliant and involving ride.
All in all, a great listening copy for a commited fan - a bit below the standards of a commited collector.
