"Ritmo y Sabor," recently reissued on the Mediterraneo label, is a strange record of obscure provenance. Apparently made in Cuba, it sounds as if it was recorded in the late 1960's; there's a bass line, for instance, that quotes from the Beatles "Day Tripper." On the album, the conga player Manteca leads a group of other drummers, along with a bass (said to be the well-known Cuban bassist Cachao) and an occasional piano
