Vinyl LPs One and Two contain the 2018 Steven Wilson remix of the original 1994 album. Vinyl LPs Three, Four and Five contain the 2018 Michael Hunter remix of the live performance at La Cigale, 29/04/1994. Brave is the seventh studio album by Marillion, released in 1994. Marillion: Steve Hogarth (vocals, keyboards, percussion); Steve Rothery (guitar); Mark Kelly (keyboards, background vocals); Pete Trewavas (bass, background vocals); Ian Mosley (drums).
Additional personnel: Tony Halligan (Uilleann pipes); Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (cello, flute).
Recorded at Chateau Marouatte, Apre, France between April 1992 & September 1993. Includes liner notes by Steve Rothery, Steve Hogarth, Dave Meegan.
Digitally remastered by Peter Mew (1998, Abbey Road Studios, London, England).
Rebounding from the inconsistent Holidays in Eden, Marillion retreated to the studio for 15 months to write and record the concept album Brave. Telling the story of an abused girl wandering on Severn Bridge, the album is a solid mix of symphonic tracks with a pronounced rock edge. A band known for trilogies, the final set of "The Great Escape," "The Last of You," and "Falling From the Moon" form one of the most dynamic showcases for vocalist Steve Hogarth and guitarist Steve Rothery. Brave remains the most complex Marillion release to date, with layers and layers of sound. A full-length movie of Brave, directed by Richard Stanley, was released in Europe in conjunction with the album. ~ Dale Jensen
