Following a string of three multi-platinum albums with Dire Straits—Dire Straits (1978), Communiqué (1979), and Making Movies (1980)—Knopfler, the group's lead singer, guitarist, songwriter, and producer, began to look for new musical challenges and opportunities. Local Hero is the debut soundtrack album by Mark Knopfler, released in March 1983 by Vertigo Records internationally. It contains music composed for the 1983 film Local Hero, produced by David Puttnam and both written and directed by Bill Forsyth. Knopfler invited Gerry Rafferty to be the lead vocalist on the song, "The Way It Always Starts".

The record is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The sleeve and any extra items are in perfect condition.
EXCELLENT (EX)
The record shows signs of having been played but there is negligible loss in sound quality. The sleeve may have slight wear or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG)
The record has been played many times but shows no significant deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects.
GOOD (G)
The record has been played enough that the sound quality has deteriorated noticeably and may have pops and skips. The sleeve may suffer from scuffs, spine splits, ring wear and/or discolouration.
CONDITION: This item is in excellent or mint condition unless stated above.
