Mark Spoelstra – Recorded at Club 47, Inc. is a live folk‑blues album first released in 1963 on Folkways, capturing Mark Spoelstra in performance at Club 47, a legendary venue in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to which he was well received. The album shows him in his early‑career phase, playing solo with acoustic guitar and delivering songs that blend traditional folk, blues influences, and Spoelstra’s own songwriting. The material is intimate, unique, emotional: tracks move between plaintive blues, narrative folk, and meditative plus two religious themes (“Let Us Pray”, “Goin’ Home”) as well as more conventional folk‑blues numbers. It’s a youthful document of the folk revival scene: raw, earnest, and with a strong sense of presence, giving listeners insight into Spoelstra’s voice both as a guitarist and lyricist just as he was emerging and before his broader career with more polished studio recordings.
