Of the talent of Joao Carlos Martins, Alfred Cortot proclaimed: "With this kind of tone, with the ability of his fingers, he could become very important for the history of piano playing."
Alas, it was not to be, as Martins while on a visit to Bulgaria was pummeled by thugs so badly, he entirely lost the use of his right arm. That said, years before, he gave us this gift:
Bach’s WELL-TEMPERED Complete. It was recorded in the Grand Ballroom of the Manhattan Towers Hotel in 1964, in twelve four-hour sessions, one per week.
Only the finest equipment was used, and in the Connoisseur Society tradition, all processing was without a hint of limiting, EQ, compression, or artifical reverb.
The end result stands beside Glenn Gould’s as one of the finest ever put to records, here in a slipcase box that has minor wear, hardly of concern. Within, are 7 CS platters in near-mint playing condition, the set well tended and fine.
A treasure of piano repertory, not to be missed.

Shipping and handling is $5 for up to 5 LPs shipped within the States. Internationally, $15 via airmail for the first LP, $3 each thereafter. (Canada is half that.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
