"The Max Roach Quartet feat. Hank Mobley" 1954
RARE Debut Records (DLP 13), Mono, VG-
On Roach's third full-length release, he leads a new quartet comprising Franklin Skeete on bass, Walter Davis II on drums, and featuring the 22-year-old Hank Mobley on the tenor saxophone. Roach co-owned Debut Records with Charles Mingus and his wife, Celia, but only recorded one solo album, The Max Roach Quartet Featuring Hank Mobley, on the label. In the 10" LP format, this album is incredibly hard to find; more widespread is the Original Jazz Classics reissue from the 1980's. This record is in VG- condition, with a light webbing pattern of hairline scratches on the vinyl. However, we have played this record through, and surface noise is minimal, with no skips or breaks. The cover shows some light foxing on the back (see pictures above for more details).TRACK LISTING:
