Maxine Sullivan with Scott Hamilton Quintet ORIG US LP Uptown NM ’85 Jazz Vocal
Maxine Sullivan with the Scott Hamilton Quintet
Uptown
Original US LP released in 1985 on Concord Records. Cat:CJ288.
The first of her two Concord albums, this set features veteran singer Maxine Sullivan performing ten of her favorite songs, all of which originated from the swing era or before. Sullivan sounds quite happy to be joined by tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton's very complementary quintet (which also includes guitarist Chris Flory and pianist John Bunch). The best among the familiar songs are Maxine's renditions of "I Thought About You," "Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams," "By Myself" and "I Got a Right to Sing the Blues."
Tracks : You were meant for me/ I thought about you/ Goody goody/ Something to remember you by/ Wrap your troubles in dreams/ You’re a lucky guy/ Georgia on my mind/ By myself/ I got a right to sing the blues/ Just one of those things.
