Paul McCartney:

We're opening BeatleDave's Sir Paul Archive!  Here's the best quality at bargain prices:  

1) EBONY & IVORY/RAINCLOUDS (Columbia 02860 1st pressing with PICTURE SLEEVE, 1982); and

2) EBONY AND IVORY/RAINCLOUDS (Columbia 02860 1st pressing, revised title with PICTURE SLEEVE, 1982): Both 45s are clean M-; the picture sleeves are clean VG+.

Paul McCartney ended his 2-year exile from the charts (after being arrested for pot in Japan) with the thundering success of this collaboration with Stevie Wonder: Ebony & Ivory was #1 for an impressive 7 weeks in 1982 (Paul only surpassed its 7 weeks at the top with the 9 weeks that his Beatles song Hey Jude was #1 in 1968).

The single was originally issued as Ebony & Ivory, but for some reason it was decided to replace the "&" with the word "and".  The single's massive success insured that the later title Ebony And Ivory is relatively common; but the original issue with "&" in the title is scarce.  We estimate the later "and" labels outnumber the "&" version at least 10 to 1.
